Why is there a need for Access Control?
You may be aware of risks on your premises, or you may be unsure how necessary access control is. Our security experts will help you to identify risks and design a system that allows seamless movement, but only for authorised personnel. Even more ingenious, using electronic access control systems, you will also be able to track and record access information in the event of a security breach.
If you already have some form of security system installed on your premises, we can configure an electronic access control system to operate alongside your CCTV, intruder alarm and/or intercom systems, offering complete peace of mind. Full integration is possible, or we can upgrade your existing systems. Whatever your needs, our skilled maintenance engineers are always on hand to keep your access control system and security equipment in perfect working order.
What are the benefits of an Access Control System?
Electronic access control systems provide security and flexibility. You get to decide, not only who has access to your property but also which parts of the building they can access and when.
Enjoy the following features and benefits of a bespoke access control system:
- Secure your property, restricting access to allotted areas and at certain times, thus protecting confidential information
- Easy to use customer interface allows you to easily add, remove or amend users accessibility, keeping control in your hands, even when off-site
- Scalable systems suitable for a few up to thousands
- Detailed entry logging, records each ‘action’ onto the system
- No need to monitor usage of physical keys or worry about retrieving them from ex-employees
- No costly changes to locks as individual users can be removed at the click of a button
- Timesheet friendly, with 24/7 recording and monitoring of entry logs
- Battery back-up takes over in the event of a power cut, ensuing your system is online until power is restored.
Choose the Access Control System that suits your needs?
At Silver Group, we offer audio, video, proximity, radio, code and even biometric technology to achieve the security level that you need. Many of our customers have come to rely on this level of security and can’t imagine not having it in place.
It’s not just doors and gates that you can control. Garages and even lifts can be incorporated into an access control system. For access to car parks, you can take advantage of the benefits of Automatic Number Plate Recognition.
Of course, you may already have an alternate system. No problem, we can offer a FREE review of your existing equipment, identifying security risks in combination with the roles people play in your business to design a system that suits your needs perfectly.
If an upgrade is required, we can offer advice on the best systems currently available. And once your system is up and running, we also offer maintenance services to keep your equipment in tip-top condition.
A proximity card is the simplest access method. Present your card to the card reader on a barrier or turnstile, similar to a contactless payment device. Some systems tolerate a longer range which means your card can be kept on your person or in a bag.
Technology has advanced, meaning these cards not only provide access, but they can be integrated with vending systems, air conditioning, heating, lighting and other third party applications. The beauty of this integration is that effective facilities management can contribute to saving energy and cutting utility costs.
Smartphones are increasingly taking over where cards were once required, we’re seeing these in many environments including transport and retail.
Proximity cards using verification
The proximity card is flexible and can be shared among colleagues. But if this were unacceptable, or if a card was lost (allowing access to anyone who found it), you’ll need a system with an extra layer of security. Additional verification doesn’t need to be cumbersome; it can be as simple as a PIN. Biometrics are increasingly popular and may also be employed at this level although are usually employed for the highest security level.
Three factor authentication refers to a combination these three things: something you can carry with you (card or other ID), something you can memorise (PIN) and something unique to you (biometric).
By far, the most secure access system that exists. Biometrics are popular because they cannot be lost, stolen or copied. They are unique to the individual involved and include fingerprints, face recognition and retinal scan.
If you wanted to enhance your access security beyond three factor authentication, you could also install a system which allows personnel to authorise a visitor or employee, using audio or video. Entry can only be gained once the person entering has successfully inputted their credentials AND someone inside the building (or someone outside the building using remote software) has verified they are permitted to enter.
If this is something that appeals to you, we can create a bespoke system incorporating as many entry points as you require.
