WHAT’S INVOLVED IN CHOOSING THE RIGHT FIRE ALARM SYSTEM?
Choosing the right fire alarm is essential for a number of reasons. It saves you time, money, reduces false alarms (which causes inconvenience to others as well as you) and fulfils your legal obligations.
Where do you start? Our first question to you will always be, ‘Do you have a fire risk assessment?’ This important document will explain the level of fire risk on your premises and help you decide how best to mitigate that risk.
Sometimes a fire alarm isn’t needed, but this is relatively rare for commercial premises. As well as an alarm system, you may also need other equipment such fire extinguishers and fire doors.
AREN’T FIRE ALARM SYSTEMS REALLY COMPLICATED?
It can sometimes feel that way! The market has expanded dramatically in recent years with product innovation and new technology continually improving fire safety. Systems range from a basic alarm to those with in-built sensor technology and early warning systems.
HOW CAN THE SILVER GROUP HELP ME?
There are many ways in which we can help. We start with a site survey and then work alongside you to design a fire safety system which is right for your building. Once the design phase is completed and you’re happy, we will oversee installation from start to finish. And then, we’ll commission the system, which means we run final checks and tests prior to handing over the system to you.
All our equipment is compatible with open protocol and managed systems. What’s more, we only use the highest-quality equipment from the finest manufacturers across Europe. So, you can be confident in our ability to get the job done, first time.
And if that weren’t enough, we’re also BAFE SP203-1 accredited for our expertise in design, installation, commissioning and maintenance.
Let’s look at the process, from beginning to end, in more detail.
DESIGNING A FIRE ALARM SYSTEM
The design phase always starts with a full site survey. Your premises are unique to you, so the site survey helps us to identify anything which could affect system design. We work with our customers on all shapes and sizes of fire alarms; be it brand new, a system upgrade, modification or extension. There’s nothing we haven’t seen before.
The results of the site survey give us the data we need to design a system which is completely in sync with your building layout and usage. And, it goes without saying that everything we design is in line with current British Standards, complying with the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005.
Before we start work on design, we always discuss budget, timescales and any other considerations which might affect the installation process. This means there are no nasty surprises in store for you once we’ve put together our proposal and quotation.
SUPPLYING A FIRE ALARM SYSTEM
Our fire alarm design phase is comprehensive and takes all your needs into account. So, it should come as no surprise that we take the supply stage just as seriously.
We source all our equipment from the finest manufacturers in Europe giving you access to the latest technology available; from conventional non-addressable fire alarms to addressable analogue and digital systems.
Our partnerships with a range of specialist suppliers give us the edge when it comes to providing you with the best possible fire alarm system for your building.
INSTALLING A FIRE ALARM SYSTEM
The installation of your fire alarm is handled from start to finish by us. Our technicians are highly qualified to install your new system; in fact, they’re so good at their job, you’ll hardly know they’re there!
We ensure that our installations adhere to a range of safety standards – remember, that we are third party accredited which means our work is subject to inspection by independent accrediting organisations.
Once installation is complete, we also offer full staff training of your new alarm system.
COMMISSIONING A FIRE ALRM SYSTEM
One of the most important phases is the testing phase, also known as commissioning. As we’ve already said, fire alarms save lives – but only if they’re fit for purpose. We don’t consider the job is finished until our technicians have completed the commissioning phase.
In accordance with the relevant British Standard (BS5839), we test every element individually and then the whole system to ensure it complies with the original design specification. When this is complete, we sign off your fire alarm system and issue a certificate.
AND FINALLY MAINTENANCE!
Getting your new system up and running can feel like a huge responsibility. And while that’s true, it’s not the end of the story.
A carefully-planned maintenance schedule will ensure your new fire alarm system is looked after throughout its life. In turn, this means you and your business are looked after, as well. Choose from our range of maintenance packages once your new system is up and running and we’re certain, you’ll never look back.
