Starting with a simple hand-cranked box, to an air change-sensitive smoke alarm system, right through to an intelligent, control panelled system, fire alarm technology has developed in leaps and bounds. But….
Whatever the system, a properly triggered fire alarm will alert anyone within the vicinity. However, with no connection to a monitoring system, it will never alert the fire brigade!
The importance of monitoring
Government statistics show that 67% of major fires occur in unoccupied buildings. Even more worrying is the fact that arson is on the increase. With buildings being open to the risk of electrical faults, as well as both accidental and deliberate fire damage, a monitored fire alarm is a massively important addition to your fire safety solution.
Here at Silver Group, our BAFE (British Approvals for Fire Equipment) accreditation demonstrates that we have the knowledge and experience to offer you comprehensive fire security systems and regular service. Our monitored alarm systems utilise BT Redcare and the award winning DualCom intelligent alarm signalling service.
The British Standards changes to fire alarm installations (BS5839:2013 section 15:2 ), stipulating that “the early summoning of the fire service is considered critical to the safety of occupants…” emphasises the importance of connecting your fire alarm to a monitoring centre. This ensures a rapid response from the Fire and Rescue Service whenever the alarm may sound.
How does the process work?
In the event of a fire, the Fire Control Panel will alert the Alarm Receiving Centre, monitored 24 hours a day. The monitoring station will call your designated telephone number in order to determine whether the fire is real, and if so, identify the area of origin inside the building. This enables frontline firefighters to take informed, decisive action.
With over 350 fires in the workplace every day, and over 80% of fire-affected businesses never re-opening, the 24/7 Southern monitoring system will save precious minutes, crucially ensuring minimal losses.
Our commitment to fire safety and long-term experience ensures that we are always fully qualified to design, install, monitor and maintain your fire alarm system to the highest industry standards. Here at Silver Group, we will service and maintain your tailored system for you, so you have assurance and certification that your premises are fully protected.
