Having had a great 2017 here at Silver Group, Sergio De Michele and the rest of the directors wanted to say a big thank you to the whole company. Of course, they could have treated us to a very nice evening out in December as a traditional company Christmas party meal, But no, they had something a little bigger in mind. They arranged for the whole company to spend the weekend in a luxury hotel, The Sharnbrook with various activities planned for us all. As you will see from the very short video below, which captured just some of the weekend it was a very full weekend indeed.
Having checked into our rooms before lunchtime Saturday, we enjoyed a drink in the bar and then it was time to make our own lunch – was this the powers that be trying to save some money? Well actually, it was highly entertaining “pizza making class” run by the hotel’s owner Ciro and his head chef. Following the demonstration, they handed us all the fresh dough and we stretched, kneaded, spinning and threw it in the air (hopefully catching it too). Needless to say, the fine flour was flying with just a little landing on ourselves – it nearly got very messy!
Having added our own toppings to each of our pizzas, they were taken to the ovens whilst we enjoyed a fine Italian tapas before enjoying our own creations – those jalapeno peppers looked so innocent fresh in the bowls before hand… whoops!
Next it was out to the grounds where a laser clay pigeon shoot had been set up for our exclusive use. The competition between us all was strong. The guns had the same feel and weight to the genuine rifles but thankfully are a lot safer, firing the laser beams to the reflective clays, just as well we our lot! A couple of hours later and there was a winner, well winners actually. And I can confirm that no clays were harmed.
Time for a quick rest and freshen up before welcome drinks in the bar and then to our own private dining, away from the restaurant, needless to say the wine followed during the four courses. Once the teas and coffees where cleared, we stepped into another room where they had kindly arranged own our mini casino consisting of professional roulette table as well as black-jack and poker. I was a little worried when our financial director placed all their chips on black 28, but fortunately the company accounts were well and truly ring-fenced that night. And I can’t deny it was great fun on the tables.
Well the company drinks continued to flow until the early hours, whilst we joined in with the DJ and on the dance floor across from the bar. I’m not sure how many of us remember what time we finally made it to our rooms, but I was amazed to see how many managed to make it to breakfast on the Sunday morning. Anyway, it was a great weekend with friends and not just work colleagues. Of course the pressure will be on for what Sergio and his directors can arrange for next year, particularly if the growth forecasts come to fruition as planned. I think a spa weekend in south of France was mentioned? I wonder what the chances are? I might put a couple of chips on it!
