Compliance is certainly the buzz word currently within the Smoke Ventilation industry at present, but sadly very few companies are able to offer the client a truly compliant solution.
However Silver Group are different – with our Certified Partnership with SE Controls and key strategic partnership with A-Plus Aluminium windows, we can offer a truly fully compliant solution from design to install, commissioning and subsequent maintenance. This total package to you positions us uniquely in allowing you that legal compliance.
In order to meet this compliance we have worked closing with our partners ensuring that all manufacturing has been completed to very exactly standards with rigorous testing. Silver Group are regularly audited to ensure that we complete the designs to those know standards and requirements and of course to establish that out work procedures are of the very highest standards.
Up until recently, there was little documentation covering how smoke ventilation systems could be compliant in meeting exacting standards. The Building regulations Approved Document B along with EN12101 went some way to establishing that legislation, it is not until the new BS7346-8 was released that the complete process from manufacture to servicing of smoke ventilation systems could be truly tested for full compliance to exacting standards. Not only does it deal with product quality, location, performance and operation, but also the key questions of assessment of needs together with the certification and verification by authorised bodies.
By having a robust installer accreditation scheme, which is now in place, and BS7346-8 as the recognised system implementation standard, there is now no justification for inferior quality installations. Ignorance cannot be an excuse.
BS7346-8 builds on all of the regulations, procedures and processes that exist and combines them into a unified code or practice that is designed to make the entire procedure of designing, installing and maintaining a compliant smoke control system a much more straightforward task.
Silver Group with their strategic partnerships with compliant manufacturers and the strict auditing of processes procedures are able to offer that fully compliant solution.
Ask your smoke ventilation provider can that offer a truly compliant solution, then ask yourself can you afford not to be fully compliant?
BS 7346-8:2013 – Product components and the code of practice for planning, design and installation as well as ongoing maintenance of Smoke Control systems.
EN12101 – This European standard requires that natural smoke and heat exhaust ventilators installed as a components of a natural smoke and heat exhaust system are CE marked and meet the Construction Products Regulations. For the products to meet this approval, they must have passed many rigorous tests. Regardless of the repeated tests in extreme hot and cold temperatures, with snow and high winds as additional factors, the vents must suffer no more than a 10% loss in aperture of opening. They operate with 60 seconds on activation.
EN60335-2-103:2003 – This covers electric drives for windows and vents and specifies that any automatic mechanism installed with finger trap design consideration.
BS 8519:2010 – Ensuring the fire resistance of all cable and wiring for the devices and their control systems.
